Come along with us as we meet the local community leaders who bring School Management Committees (COGES) to life.
Leaders like Marie-Louise KOUAME AMOIN don’t just attend meetings, they visit families, talk with parents, and challenge traditions to ensure every girl has the chance to learn. It’s patient, personal work. It’s change from the inside out.
Thanks to the dedication of Marie-Louise and so many others—women and men committed to education, Côte d’Ivoire has seen a remarkable transformation. Twenty years ago, girls’ enrolment lagged far behind. Today, the country has nearly closed that gap: in 2022, the World Bank’s Gender Parity Index for primary school enrolment reached 0.96.

Through the CLEF initiative, the Government of Côte d’Ivoire, 16 cocoa and chocolate companies, and two philanthropic foundations are working hand in hand with communities—building classrooms, strengthening local leadership, and laying the foundations for dignity, opportunity, and empowerment for every child.
CLEF is a commitment to:
- Get more children into school.
- Make sure children learn at school.
- Achieve impact at scale; we want to make a difference in the lives of more than 4 million children by 2027.
CLEF funds school infrastructure and childcare facilities, supports teacher training in evidence-based pedagogical techniques, promotes behavior change so parents engage in their children’s education and apply good parenting practices to boost early childhood development, and tests a cutting-edge school nutrition program.
CLEF welcomes new partners: contact us to learn more about the initiative and to get involved.
